So I'll be heading off to the Loews Hotel in Hollywood tomorrow for the Writer's Digest West Conference where I'll be pitching my story to agents! I really only finalized my pitch last night so I have today to memorize it. Eek! I'm a little nervous. But I do feel really good about my pitch. And my story, which is technically not finished yet, is the strongest it's been since I first started writing it three years ago.
In a lot of ways I feel like my life could kind of explode just from attending this one event (no pressure), but I also know that no matter the outcome, as far as getting an agent goes, it will be a beneficial experience. This will be my first time attending a writer's conference, which is the other exciting thing about it. I'll be around other book geeks like me.
For those of you who don't know what goes on at a writer's conference, I'll tell you what my day tomorrow will consist of:
9a "Writing and Publishing Children's and Teen Books"
10:30a "Six Secrets to Novel Writing No one Ever Told you"
12p Keynote speaker: The history of a love story
1p Lunch
2:15p Pitch Slam Session
4p "How to Make a Career Out of Writing Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror"
So I'll have 90 seconds with each agent I have the pleasure of speaking with to pitch my story, and they will in turn give 90 seconds of feedback.
Wish me luck!
If you were led to this post via a Google search or would just like to know more about how to pitch your story, I would suggest you go here, here, and here.
