Fashion of figure skating

I really enjoyed watching the women's figure skating long programs on Friday. Of course, one thing I always notice are their costumes. I love it when it's obvious that thought was put into the costume in relation to the music. Sometimes the costumes don't even seem interesting or as beautiful until the skater starts moving and it takes on a life of its own with movement. Love that.

Adelina, pictured above, won the gold for Russia, but her costume wasn't my favorite (though it is on the list). Here are costumes that were my favorites.

I loved that Julia's costume was inspired by the little girl from Schindler's List, which was the music she skated to. And I was waiting for someone to skate to Sleeping Beauty, and Gracie Gold did just that. I thought her costume was perfect. Gabrielle's was my very favorite because I'm a little obsessed with peacocks. For Ashley's, I don't even like yellow, but that one is just gorgeous. And Mao Asada's was really different, and I liked the way it looked when she was skating.

Did you watch skating this Olympics? Which costume was your favorite?

Out of Print Clothing

I was looking through the new issue of House Beautiful and came across this tote bag from Outofprintclothing.com! I immediately went through the roof with excitement: my favorite story of all time with a picture of a peacock! (I'm not sure if you've noticed lately, but I'm obsessed with peacocks!)

This is actually the original artwork by Hugh Thompson from the original cover of Pride & Prejudice. It's only $18 and for every item you purchase on outofprintclothing they donate a book to a community in need through their partner Books for Africa. (Visit their website to find out more about what you can do to help communities in Africa be enriched from the joy of reading.)

Needless to say, I was sold and bought one right away! I can't wait to use it! Check out all their other amazingly cool products that feature covers from some of your favorite classic novels!

Emma therapy

You know when you're having a bad or weird day and people say to post about shoes or fashion to help you feel better? Well, this is my version: Emma Watson from this month's edition of the UK's Harper's Bazaar. I love Emma Watson no matter what; she's an angel, but I thought these photos were particularly striking. The last one is my favorite :)

Victoria's Secret Fashion Show

I almost forgot to tell you about this year's Victoria's Secret Fashion Show! I almost missed it myself, but thankfully I caught the last half of it. If you've never watched one of these fashion shows set your calendars for next year's show because, trust me when I say, they are nothing short of sensational. This year they went all out with sexy Americana, wild things, and sports themes along with their pink line, which just continues to get bigger and bigger. Katy Perry and Akkon also performed.

Meditation Rings

-->I was looking through the newest issue of In Style magazine when I saw these rings in the very back from Meditation Rings. I just think it’s such a lovely idea to put so much thought and meaning into such beautiful pieces of jewelry. The thickness of the actual bands and the separate moving rings are what appeal to me the most about them. And it also helps that they’re not ridiculously over priced! (the one above, which is my favorite, is $149)

Oscar Red Carpet

Demi Moore's dress was by far my favorite dress at the Oscars last night. When she walked out on stage all I could say was "Oh my god!" Absolutely gorgeous!!
And Sandra Bullock was my second favorite:

Lots of silver, pale pinks and really pretty dark blues, purples and reds. Here are a few more I really liked for your viewing pleasure:

Blue nails

What is it that's just so lovely about having your nails painted? I got a pedicure the other day (and I hadn't painted them in months) this dark purple color and felt it necessary that my naked finger nails get the same extravagant treatment. I wanted dark blue so I went to the grocery store and my nails are now "Midnight Affair" blue. It's just a really dark indigo sparkly blue. I painted them today. I really took my time too. And I must say they came out really nice. Now my hands feel all shiny and new and just extremely....feminine. Love it. I've noticed too it seems to be a trend to paint dark colors on rather short natural nails. I don't know if it's a new trend. I've been doing it for a long time, but have only recently noticed in television and movies especially, how much of a trend it has become. Well, I don't care if it's a trend or not. I think it's fabulous.

Not to mention what a good idea it is to save money to pull a dyi on your mani's and pedi's every once in a while. I got the idea from Melanie over at Melanie's Randomness. Check out all her other money saving ideas here.

I Heart these Shoes...

At Midtown Girl's suggestion, here are the loveliest shoes, in my opinion, ever! Looking these up online led me to the Manolo Blahnik website and wow!

P.S. I can't wait for Sex and the City 2 :)

Chanel

I've been hearing good things about the new movie about Coco Chanel called "Coco Before Chanel" and I really want to see it. I keep seeing those little advertisements on facebook for it and I finally saw a trailer on tv the other day. It came out in theaters here in the US last friday, but it's been out in Europe since August I believe. Audrey Tautou looks as fabulous as ever.

I've never really been much into fashion, but I do know who Coco Chanel is (a younger Coco Chanel pictured above). There's a good article on 1st Dibs about Chanel here. I always find it so interesting to know the stories behind the beginnings of an icon.
